We have SHOCKING news!!!

Jane Lawler

We’re celebrating…it’s official our shock wave machine is here to stay!
It’s exciting news for our team at Junction Foot & Ankle Group and for our patients! Over the last few months we’ve been trialling the use of a shock wave machine on some of our patients, and we have been so impressed with the results we have decided to invest in buying a machine of our own.

And, it’s not just any machine. It’s the bees knees as far as shock wave machines are concerned, the Swiss DoloClast. This is welcome news for patients presenting with certain sports injuries, heel pain, tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and other musculo-skeletal disorders.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy or ESWT was originally developed from technology using high energy shock waves to break up kidney stones.

A specialised probe delivers very specific and focused high energy shock (force) waves into a target area. It is not electric shock therapy!! The way ESWT assists in healing is by increasing blood flow to the area and stimulating the body’s repair process. It doesn’t tickle but results have been impressive with reported rates of 80% clinical effectiveness in the treatment of chronic painful conditions such as plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and Achilles Tendon pain.

You may need between 3 to 5 treatments to determine whether ESWT is working for you. At the time of consultation, your podiatrist will provide you with plenty of information regarding the treatment. If you are suitable for the shock wave treatment, this can be undertaken.

We’re passionate about you getting the best results possible, so in addition to the shock wave treatment we’ll instruct you on suitable stretching and strengthening exercises and may even undertake some strapping. It’s the whole package we’re after, for the best results.
If you have been putting up with pain for a while and not getting anywhere, we can assess if shock wave treatment might be an option for you. Book in for a consultation and be sure to bring in any previous imaging (x-rays, scans) if you have any.
